Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!

December felt long but luckily it ended well! I was a month on the road but so it felt great to come home for a little over a weeks Christmas break.

The races have gone well and bad. Beaver Creek and Valdisere i have put behind me. In Alta Badias first run I made a mistake and was 27th but in the second run I made the best time and a good run! I concentrated on making aggressive clean turns and it worked well so that I have to remember for Adelboden! But before Adelboden I will train a 4 days in the slopes around Saalfelden.

Great start to the 2009!

Hellou!

The season has begun! Sölden could have gone better but I had an ok feeling after the race. The first run was a pretty easy run, I started to push actually just in the end of the course. My position after the first run which really was an easy one wasn’t too bad! In the second run I thought I’d give it my all and push myself into the top 10. I started aggressively but into the first steep I came a little bit too aggressively and made a huge mistake that cost a lot of time.. But I managed to get back on course and skied the second fastest time on the steep! So that was positive and now atleast I know that the speed is there!

On Monday I flew back home to rainy Finland. How long I’m here for I don’t know yet, it depends on the weather and amount of snow in Lapland! But I live in the hope of a lot of snow so hopefully we get to train there a little before the race!

Hey!

Argentina was a great experience, and we also had great luck with the weather! It rained only one day. The teams that had been there before us said that it had rained and been soft but we had it quite good! My GS felt good. We beat the Italians in training! ? The slalom was difficult, but with calm runs when I’m not trying too much I make good turns. The only hard part about the trip was the trip there and back! It took forever.. But it was worth it!

After Ushuaia we had a 2 weeks break before our next camp in Pitztal and Hamburg. In Pitztal we had luck with the weather again! We had two reallt good gs trainings on Monday and Tuesday but on Wednesday as the snowstorms came in we moved to the Wittenburg hall close to Hamburg! There we skied 10 h of slalom in one and a half days! My slalom started too feel much better..

Yesterday I relaxed with some fishin in Lovisa in the wonderful autumn weather.. Now I get to be one week at home! Then Im off to Sölden and the World Cup Opening! Can’t wait.. ?

Where are you?! I want to have a big fish this season!

This one is okay, but I have bigger targets for the coming season :-)

This is the part of training I least like, but now I really know how it feels when you wet your pants - this will not happen this winter - you just wait and see!

Enjoy the Autumn!

Summer 2008

Hopefully everyone’s summer has started great!

I’ve been training hard now for about 8 weeks and my body feels good! Got a few kilos muscles more which always is nice. But too much muscles in my disclipine might not be the best so the key is to find the right balance between strenght and endurance. Luckily my fysio coach is taking good care of me!

Last time I was on skis was in the beginning of June. Trained two days in a hall close to Hamburg. Made a lot of slalom turns and was really effective training! My next camp is in the beginning of August. A one week camp in Saas Fee and then a few days in a hall.

When not training I’ve been fishing a bit, but sadly less than before! My biggest catch is a 5kg pike but I think my cousin is leading the fishing competition so I need to be on the water soon again! ? Managed to do some windsurfing also, which is great fun but not as easy as it looks!

Sunny days!
Marcus.

Hey from Whistler Canada!

Hey again!

The raceseason is over! Nice to end the races with a goldmedal from the GS National Championships in Pyhä! J

The end of my season went well even though I had some struggles! 9th place in Whistler was hard and gave a great motivation for the remaining races. It also gave a good kick for the Olympics in 2010. The race is held in the same slope and with one good race behind me I can go there calm and with a good feeling!

Helmikuu 2007, valmiina menoon

Alas tullaan hyvällä mielellä!

Kranjska Gora was the most difficult race this season. The slope was bumpy, difficult and torn. Me being sick the week before the race didn’t make it any easier! I was 23rd., not exactly what I had in mind before the race. After the race I stepped on a piece of glass and got three stitches on my right bigtoe. Luckily the US-doctor was there to stitch me up! Thanks! J

Finnish Championships 2008 at Pyhätunturi

The race in Bormio was exciting and I felt a lot of different feelings during the day! In the morning I felt sick still from my stomach sickness I had a few days earlier. Before the first run I was really tired but also excited because it was my first start from the top-15. After the first run I was pissed and angry att myself  because I tried too much and made a stupid mistake but after the second run I felt satisfied and eased because I made a good run and rose from 22nd place to 8th place. Then I was completely exhausted and flew back home with a smile on my lips! J

The beginning of this week I’m training in Suomu. Later on in the week I’m going on vacation and charging my batteries for the hard and tough summer training!

Hey from Whistler Canada!

Flew yesterday to Vancouver and tommorrow I’m racing the super-g and on Saturday the giantslalom here in Whistler! Vancouver and Whistler are really beautiful places. Amazing views in Vancouver!

My feeling before the GS is good. It’s been a while since the last GS Worldcup! It’s been boring training without Kalle and a little hard not being able to compare myself to him. It’s hard to know how fast I am when training alone... But luckily I got to train once with Bode and once with Maier and Reichelt! I had the fastest time in both trainings so that boosted up my confidence a little.. J

After the races here in Whistler I fly home and stay for a few days and try to recover from the time difference. Then I begin my preparation for Kranjska Gora and the finals in Bormio! There’s not much of the season left...

Have fun!

Hey!

My time at home was relaxing and I managed to get my knee back in better condition. I have a streched side-ligament that is going to hurt a bit but it shouldn't affect my skiing! Now I fly back down to middle-europe to prepare myself for Whistler's GS and SG!

Check out my picfolder for some fresh pictures where there's some old and some new pics! Thanks to Mitch for nice riding pictures!

Hello!

Hopefully the year 2008 has started well for everyone!

There has been a little break in the gs in the World Cup.
The race in Adelboden began well! After the first run I was 9th with an okay run! A few mistakes but the result was good. It was the first time that I was leading Kalle after the first run! J It was fun to start after him in the second..
In the second run I had some bad luck, but good luck at the same time! The run started really well! I got good speed out of the first steep but then it happened.

Too tight on the gate, my right knee goes on the wrong side of the gate and I go flying! Sad but luckily I managed without bigger injuries! It could have gone really wrong.. I only got a bruise on my right shin!

After Adelboden I raced some Euuropacups. Two slaloms in Nauders where I had fairly okay first runs but the second runs could have been better..  Then a super-g in Hinterstoder! It was my first time on sg skis for this season and it was really fun! I’m probably going to start skiing some more sg from now on... J There was also a giant slalom in Hinterstoder where I was third!

Now I’m in Kirchberg preparing my slalom for Kitzbuhel and Schladming! After the races I go home and rest myself for February!
